Energy conservation using solar collectors integrated with building louver shading devices

Abstract Solar collector plates are typically installed on roofs, but they can also be installed on the walls and windows of a building. Integrating solar collectors with shading devices that are installed on windows to block solar radiation extends the application of solar collectors. This study developed a prototype system integrating horizontal louver shading devices with solar collectors. Atmospheric data and the physical parameters of collector efficiency were recorded to examine collector performance. The results showed that the day collector efficiency, instantaneous efficiency, and collector efficiency coefficient satisfied Taiwan government standards. Consequently, integrating horizontal louver shading devices with solar collectors is feasible, but suitable only for south-facing windows.
