A novel ultra-wide band omnidirectional antenna with lightweight design

In this paper, a novel ultra-wide band (UWB) omnidirectional antenna with lightweight design is proposed. By combining the advantageous characteristics of disc monopole antenna and bi-conical antenna as well as further structure optimization, the proposed antenna is featured with omnidirectional radiation in ultra-wide band. Furthermore, by using linearized metal wire, the size of designed antenna is minimized to 270mm × 270mm × 291.5 mm, which is significantly lightweight. Also, the simulation results demonstrate that the antenna can work from 0.23GHz to 5.2 GHz with low return loss and has relatively high gain omnidirectionally in the whole band.
