No Place for Nostalgia in Science: A Response to Arkes and Tetlock

1. Prejudice and other attitudes were assumed to operate largely in conscious (explicit, deliberate, con trollable, intentional) mode. Now they are generally viewed as also operating in a less conscious (implicit, spontaneous, uncontrollable, unintentional) mode (Eagly & Chaiken, 1993; Fazio, Sanbonmatsu, Powell, & Kardes, 1986; Greenwald & Banaji, 1995; Wilson, Lindsey, & Schooler, 2000). From this conceptual shift other changes have followed:
