Intelligent Transport Systems for Vehicle Drivers

The primary objective of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) is to enhance efficiency and safety in traffic and transport, for a large part by eliminating (the effects of) traffic accidents as far as possible. The benefits of ITS implementations are potentially considerable, not in the least if a significant decrease in accidents can be established, decreasing human suffering, economical costs and pollution. However, there are also potential problems to be expected, since the task of driving a motor vehicle under ITS is changing from slight adaptations to fundamental transformations with considerable effects. Many of these effects pertain to changes in driver behavior.
