Optimal dispersion management scheme for 40 Gb/s optical fiber transmission systems with different input powers

For long-haul and high-bit-rate optical transmission systems, the trend is to deploy a dispersion compensation scheme. In the design of such a scheme, optimal DCR shall be carefully chosen for different situations, such as different signal power and transmission length. This Letter describes the simulation of the dispersion-managed systems of 40-Gb/s bit rate. The DCR values for different signal power and transmission length are different. An explanation is given for the differences, and the proper design scheme for the high-bit-rate dispersion-managed system for different situations. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
