The functions of automotive door seal are preventing inflow of dust or water from outside and isolating noise. To achieve these design target. the reaction force of door seal should be higher than specific criteria, but door closing effort requires the minimum of reaction force on the other hand. Door seal design is the compromise between these two reciprocal design target. Door closing velocity which has a number of factors including door seal has been evaluated only by door closing test directly. This vehicle test is hard to find the main factors affecting door closing effort and also not helpful for developemnt optimized seal design. Computational effort on door seal design has been focused On no more than drawing and structural analysis. Numerical process was developed to predict minimum door closing velocity from real vehicle's geometrical/physical data and virtual reaction force versus closing time data. A 3 dimensional door closing analysis using explicit code was introduced with door closing assembling analysis for more realistic solution.
