The potentials of some stabilizers for the use of lateritic soil in construction

Abstract Lateritic soil was stabilized with various percentages of rice husk ash (RHA), lime and cement. Atterberg limits, standard Proctor compaction, unconfined compression and California bearing ratio tests were carried out on lateritic soil with various percentages of these stabilizers in order to examine their influence. The required amounts of ash, lime and cement were determined for economical stabilization. This paper presents the potentials of rice husk ash compared to lime and cement in lateritic soil stabilization. For road construction, it recommends 7% cement for base materials, 5% lime for sub-base materials and 18% rice husk ash for sub-base materials.
