COASTAL ENGINEERING - THEORY AND PRACTICE

This paper attempts to identify from historical and sociological perspectives how coastal engineering has developed. Particular attention is paid to how its theory and practice have developed and are becoming alienated so that they no longer complement each other. It concludes with some possible methods to preclude further separation and bring about possible symbiosis.
