Unified Curvilinear Ocean Atmosphere Model (UCOAM): A vertical velocity case study

Abstract In this paper, the Unified Curvilinear Ocean Atmosphere Model (UCOAM) is described. UCOAM is a non-hydrostatic LES model, capable of reading curvilinear orthogonal and non-orthogonal grid in all the three dimensions including the vertical. Furthermore, the interaction of bottom bathymetry with the flow field and particularly, the vertical component of the velocity in a fully curvilinear grid and a sigma grid are presented.
