Numerical modelling of gust effect on wind-driven rain

The weather resistance design of building facades requires adequate knowledge on the wind and rain environments around the building. Wind-driven rain intensity on building faces was first studied with on site measurements. More recently numerical method using computational fluid dynamics technique were proposed. However, the method was based on a mean flow condition without taking the effect of gusts into account. In the present paper a numerical method for the simulation of wind-driven rain around a building with the effect of gust incorporated is proposed. Some preliminary results on the effects due to two types of gust simulation (a) small uncorrelated gust and (b) large correlated gust are presented.
