NUMERICAL PREDICTION OF ULTIMATE BEHAVIOR OF MARINE STEEL STRUCTURES

Theoretical methods for predicting structural behaviour are surveyed. Emphasis is placed on numerical methods based on finite element discretizations. Formulation of basic continuum equations, including the effect of large deflections and plasticity, selection of finite elements and methods for solving of governing equations are dealt with. Examples are presented, demonstrating that numerical methods have potential for realistic prediction of the behaviour of complex steel structures. Order from NSFI as No. 19500.
