2.4.1 An investigation into how systems engineering can help preserve natural environments

The INCOSE Systems Engineering Vision suggests that if systems engineering is to be adopted by small and medium enterprises then lean/agile process sets must emerge accompanied by multiple views that include socio-technical, economic and political perspectives. In this paper, the authors apply a lightweight systems engineering framework to analyze a socio-technical problem domain with the potential to influence the quality of life in the Norwegian High Mountain Plateau. The results indicate that while many requirements of a vacation home are met by the architecture, providing modern conveniences while at the same time preserving the natural environment requires technological solutions, and systems engineering. In the opinion of these authors, this epitomizes the meaning of ‘Systems Engineering for the Planet.’
