Tumor detection by microwave radar imaging system

In this paper, we describe the design of an ultra wide band (UWB) system for microwave imaging system, using monopole antenna fed by a 50 Ω microstrip line, operating over 1.416 – 9.367 GHz band. To meet the requirements of the specifications of our application, some bandwidth enlargement techniques have been introduced such as: the insertion slots, and the use of partial ground plans. A simple breast and tumor models have been developed and simulated under CST software. Finally, we have implemented the delay and sum Integration algorithm for microwave imaging to detect a small tumor (radius = 5 mm).
