Design of a dynamic vibration absorber against vibrations in turning operations

Abstract A dynamic vibration absorber is mounted on a cutting tool against vibrations in turning operations. It is shown that the dynamic vibration absorber can reduce the magnitude of the frequency response function of the cutting tool. As a result, vibrations can be effectively suppressed in the cutting process when the dynamic vibration absorber is attached to the cutting tool. Experimental results performed in turning operations are presented to illustrate this approach.
