SUCCESSFUL VALVE REPLACEMENT IN A PATIENT WITH PROSTHETIC VALVE ENDOCARDITIS, TREATED WITH VANCOMYCIN

It is a recent serious problem that the resisstant bacteria against various antibiotics have been increased. Particularly, β-lactamase producing bacteria are eliable to acquire the resistance against almost of penicillins and cephem antibiotics to cause referactory infections. We report a case of prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) caused by β-lactamase producing Staphylococcus epidermidis, who was successfully treated with valve replacement associated with chemotherapy including vancomycin mainly. Vancomycin is widely used for infections caused by multiple drug resistant bacteria in Europe, however, in Japan, its intravenous use has not been approved as yet, and available data as reviewed as we could revealed only a few experience of i.v. vancomycin and no case report of PVE treated with it. In addition, the first reports a hemodynamic change of the antibiotic during treatment.
