An Experimental Study of the Separation of Wood and Bark by Crushing

When wood chips with bark were crushed by a hammer mill, the wood had larger size particles, and the bark had smaller sized ones. From these results, we could separate wood and bark by the further screening of the crushed particles. When we used a long size hammer mill, which had a screen on it's bottom, the bark was discharged from the screen near the inlet, and the wood was far from the inlet.Accordingly, we could separate wood and bark at the position of discharge without further screening by the use of a long size mill. The basis of these separations could be attributed to the fact that the power needed to crush wood was about 10 times as much as that for bark.
