Plantwide Control Design of a Postcombustion CO2 Capture Process

Abstract Coal-fired power plants are operated flexible over a large operating range and processes for postcombustion CO2 capture have to follow the power plant operation load and to separate the carbon dioxide in every operating point with minimal energy demand. In this work control structures for these processes were designed using self-optimizing control. The derived control structures allow the separation of 90% of CO2 over an operating range of 40 – 100% load with acceptable energy requirements.
