Solar desalination plant contra CO2 emission

Abstract For solar desalination units based on the Aquasolar system, research is provided from the prototype units in Hannover and in Sfax. The commission for water development predicts that an additional 24 million cu m per day of desalinated water will be required by the year 2000. To produce this quantity of desalinatedwater using conventional systems, we would have to use approximately 3,000,000,000,000 liters of oil per year. The resulting nitrogen oxide emission is the basis of research and development in cooperation with several universities in Germany and in Tunisia.
