Exploration of the feasibility of predicting psychological outcome after gynaecological operation

Forty Chinese women undergoing gynaecological operations for benign conditions of the genital tract were studied using a number of questions to define their attitudes and responses to surgery. The possibility of developing a ‘Predictive Score’ was explored with a provisional measure related significantly with psychological outcome at 6 weeks postoperation. This may be developed as a screening instrument to be used by gynaecologists to identify patients at risk of developing postoperative psychological sequelae.
