Study VSC with small time-step simulation based on FPGAs

Voltage source converter (VSC) have achieved rapid development in Power grids all over the world, due to its independent active power and reactive power control ability and other various functions. However, small time-steps are needed for VSCs simulation, because VSCs includes large number of power electronics switches. VSC modelling is studied on the small time-step, using a two-level convertor and a double loop current control. New switch modelling for small time-step simulation is proposed. Small time-step simulator is designed based on FPGA, especially to realize the power electronics simulation. It consists of core computation blocks, element blocks, interfaces of small and large time-step networks and commutation blocks, to ensure the real-time simulation. Finally, the simulation result is illustrated to present its feasibility.
