Research on Optimized Design of the Pitch and Camber of Marine Propellers

In this paper, optimization of the pitch and camber distributions for a marine propeller is studied using a lifting-surface code for blade loading prediction integrated with the software iSIGHT.CFD simulations are conducted to verify the designs.Taking a container ship propeller as the prototype and keeping its radial loading distribution and all other geometrical parameters unchanged, the pitch and camber distributions are re-designed by specifying different chordwise loading distributions from the prototype. The results of CFD simulation show that, without reducing the propeller efficiency, more uniform surface pressure distributions can be obtained to retard cavitation by prescribing an appropriate chordwise distribution of blade loading.
