Einsatz und Bedeutung der Radiotherapie bei Tumoren endokriner Organe – eine Übersicht

Zusammenfassung Die Übersicht soll eine Zusammenfassung veterinärmedizinischer Studien zur Radiotherapie bei Tumoren endokriner Organe liefern. Die Bedeutung der Radiotherapie im Vergleich zu anderen Therapiemodalitäten und in Kombination mit anderen Therapieformen wird diskutiert. Im Gegensatz zur Katze, bei der Schilddrüsentumoren in der Regel funktionell, klein und adenomatös sind, überwiegen beim Hund nichtfunktionelle, große, invasive karzinomatöse Umfangsvermehrungen. Bei invasiven Karzinomen des Hundes kann mit palliativer Radiotherapie eine mediane Überlebenszeit von etwa 23 Monaten erreicht werden. Durch adjuvante Radiotherapie nach unvollständiger chirurgischer Exzision sind Überlebenszeiten von 20 bis 24,5 Monaten zu erwarten. Bei der Behandlung der felinen Hyperthyreose hat die Radiojodtherapie im Hinblick auf den Patienten überzeugende Vorteile gegenüber medikamentöser und chirurgischer Therapie. Der Einsatz der Radiotherapie sollte bei der Behandlung invasiver Schilddrüsenkarzinome beim Hund und zur Behandlung hyperthyreoter Katzen stets in Erwägung gezogen werden.
