DAVID FAHRLAND was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1942. He received a BSEE from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1964, then went to work for Grumman Aircraft with instrumentation and data acquisition systems for Lunar Module Environmental testing. In 1966 he entered graduate studies at the Systems Research Center of Case Western Reserve University. Studies in automatic process control, computer science, and applied mathematics provided the background for the topic of this paper, which was done as a Master’s thesis (Professor James D. Schoeffler, advisor) and completed in 1968. David tells us, &dquo; After spending this last summer with IBM in Palo Alto, California I am anxious to return to the good life of sunshine and water sports there. As a sideline, I will explore the creative application of systems engineering to computer arts and entertainment (especially music).&dquo; At present he is continuing systems engineering studies in preparation for the PhD. He is a student member of ACM, IEEE, Sigma Xi, and Simulation Councils, Inc.
