Treatment of basal cell carcinoma of the skin with curettage. II. A follow-up study.

A follow-up study was done on a series comprising 178 patients with a total of 338 basal cell carcinomas treated solely with curettage. During a 4½-year experimental period, the tumors recurred in 26 patients. The follow-up period for patients without symptoms has been 38.3 months. It should be emphasized that the method of treatment is subject to certain limitations, but that in selected cases it must be considered the treatment of choice. Application of the technique described requires centralization of treatment to certain dermatological units.
