Fabrication of Sensorless Drive for Automotive Applications

Over the several years, demands for fuel efficiency and low emissions have become strict. To meet these needs, mechanical methods are being replaced with the power electronic methods in the automotive application. And also, the electrical power demand in automobiles is increasing steadily every year due to addition of new electrical systems that enhances passenger comfort and safety. This paper presents a design and implementation of brushless DC (BLDC) motor controller for engine cooling fan system for automotive applications. Experimental results from a laboratory prototype are presented to validate the feasibility of the proposed BLDC motor drive.
