On bending stresses at longitudinal weld joints of cylindrical shells due to peaking

Abstract Angular misalignment at longitudinal weld joints has been discussed in the literature. For the local type of peaking, various formulae for the additional bending stresses have been proposed, especially with regard to second-order theory effects. In this technical note a (power series) approximation for the local type of peaking is presented and compared with numerical results obtained via a finite element analysis.
