Abstract : The Naval Research Laboratory has constructed a 324 cu m pressurizable fire test facility. The chamber, equipped with multiports for electrical and gas feed-throughs and viewing, is pressurizable to over 6 atmospheres. Class A, B, and C fire tests can be conducted with real-time data collection, manipulation, graphical display, and mass storage. Continuous monitoring of CO, CO2, O2, HCN, and HBr is accomplished spectroscopically. Mass burning rates are followed through continuous weighing techniques. Smoke particles are monitored with laser and light scattering techniques. The chamber is also equipped with a nitrogen pressurization system for fire suppression.
