Torque Ripples Minimization Strategies of Switched Reluctance Motor - A Review

The Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) is a prominence type of electric motor because it has many advantages such as simple structure, consistency and durability, low cost, wide speed range and prominent fault-tolerant ability. This benefits of SRM are faced by the existence of torque ripples because of the highly nonlinear electromagnetic characteristics, and complex control due to nonlinear behavior and also the controller needs rotor position information. The existence of the torque ripple leads to the generation of annoying noise and undesired vibration during the operation, the torque ripple can be reduced by improving the magnetic design of the motor and/or by using advanced electronic control strategies. In this paper, various control strategies used to reduce torque ripples are explained and outlined, the operation mechanism, benefits, drawbacks, and suitable application of each control technique are introduced.
