On‐vehicle low‐profile metal‐plate antenna for 900‐MHz operation

A new design of a low-profile metal-plate antenna suitable for vehicular application in the 900-MHz band covering the AMPS (824–894 MHz) and GSM (880–960 MHz) bands is presented. The proposed antenna is easily constructed by folding a long rectangular metal plate into a symmetrical configuration with two back-to-back inverted-L arms, and has a low profile of 22 mm (about 0.066λ at 900 MHz) above the ground plane. In addition, the antenna shows a very good conical radiation pattern with omnidirectional radiation in the azimuthal plane. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
