Monitoring of Incipient Broken Rotor Bar Fault in Traction Motor Based on Dynamic Time Warping

A monitoring method based on Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) for the incipient broken rotor bar fault is proposed. The method can suppress the fundamental frequency signal of the stator current. Firstly, a reference signal is generated by the cross-correlation function, and the reference signal with the same frequency as the stator current signal. Then original stator current signal and reference signal are processed simultaneously by DTW, so that fundamental frequency signal of the stator current is suppressed and the side frequency component is highlighted. Finally, the original stator current signal and reference signal are subtracted, and the Root Mean Square (RMS) of the residuals to estimate the damage degrees of the incipient rotor. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed fault monitoring method.
