Comparison of the Amsel’s Composite Clinical Criteria and Nugent’s Criteria For Diagnosis of Bacterial Vaginosis :- A Step Towards Preventing Mis-Diagnosis . -

Background and Objective: Although Nugent’s criterion is considered as the gold standard, routinely a combination of various methods is used for the diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis(BV). In the present study we compared Amsel’s composite clinical criteria with Nugent’s method for the diagnosis of BV. Materials and Methods: Two hundred and fifty women of reproductive age group who (for antenatal care or for any other complaint) attended Gynecology and Obstetric OPD/IPD at tertiary care hospitals formed the study population. Diagnosis of BV was done by Amsel’s composite clinical criteria and Nugent’s criteria. By using “Primer of Biostatistics” by “Stanton A. Glantz” the data in our study were statistically evaluated ,compared and probability values (P) were calculated by using ANOVA, Cohen’s Kappa, Z test, Chi square(2 ) test ,Fisher’s Exact test .
