Implementation of Information Systems Infrastructures for Supply Chain Visibility in Organizations

Supply chain visibility continues to be a major concern for organizations.While there is a general perception that supply chain visibility is dependenton information sharing and enabling information technologies, there are gapsin our understanding of what constitutes supply chain visibility and thespecific information technology configurations that may be implemented forenabling visibility. This manuscript presents a framework for conceptualizinginformation sharing needs and mechanisms that need to be enabled usinginformation technologies in the pursuit of supply chain visibility. A case studyapproach was used to examine how real-world organizations engage withinformation technologies to achieve supply chain visibility. This study foundthat supply chain visibility may be enabled through an enterprise system thatintegrates disparate organizational activities, the automation of informationsharing with trading partners, and the adoption of data sharing standardsand translation maps.
