Computation of the ‘isolated building test case’ and the ‘model city experiment’ benchmarks

The aims of the IMPACT project benchmarks “Isolated building test case” and “Model city flooding experiment” are to investigate the behaviour of a dam-break flow encountering either a single building on its trajectory or multiple ordered buildings. Two experimental studies were performed, the first one at UCL (Belgium) and the second by the CESI (Italy). This paper gives an overview of the numerical modelling performed at UCL. The shallow water equations are solved by a Roe-type first-order finite-volume scheme. For each test case, the boundary conditions and the mesh are described. A sensitivity analysis is presented concerning the “Isolated building test case”. The influence of the obstacles is represented for the “Model city flooding experiment”.
