Application of selective catalytic reduction systems for NO sub x control

Within the framework of the federal New Source Performance Standards (NSPS), specific regions of the country have promulgated stringent NO{sub x} emission regulations for new fossil-fired installations. Regional regulations have been established for both fossil-fired boilers and gas- and oil-fired turbines including combined cycle applications. In particular, Southern California's South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) has mandated very low NO{sub x} emissions from both new and existing sources as the Los Angeles Basin is presently a NO{sub x} non-attainment area. This paper provides an overview of SCR system development, technology, and operating experience.
