CLIMATE AND CONCEPTION RATES IN HONG KONG.

The relationship of climate to physical health has been known in medical literature since Hippocrates. This study reports on the relation of climate to conception in the colony of Hong Kong. Conception and marriage data are plotted against meteorological variables and a seasonal comparison is presented. Temperature is seen to be the dominant weather condition influencing conception and maximum conception was concluded to occur at about 60 degrees F subject to other meteorological variables. Marriage diet and life in rural areas are discussed in relation to the study results. It is concluded that due to the significant correlation of conception rates to temperature the human body is more susceptible physiologically to seasonal changes than heretofore suspected.
