What is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)? Age-Related Macular Degeneration is a degenerative eye disease that can result in reduced central vision, but leaves peripheral or “side” vision in place. It usually affects people over the age of 50 years, and becomes more common with increasing age. After the age of 75 years, 1 in 3 people have some form of macular degeneration. AMD, when inherited can also affect those of younger age.
