Awareness on Direct Medical Control of 119 rescuers in Jeju

The purpose of this study was to investigate the awareness on direct medical control of Jeju 119 rescuers. Subjects were 180 rescuers and the survey which contained basic characteristics and ten questionnaires on medical control awareness was performed using Likert 5-point scale. Men were 156 people (86.7%), and mean age was 37.1 ± 6.1 years. Compared qualification kind according to gender, first aid training men were 48.1% as the most common, whereas women as a nurse were 62.5%, showing significant difference (p<0.001). The need of medical control in emergent situation was 4.5 ± 0.6 in men, and 4.8 ± 0.4 in women (p=0.026). In addition, while prediction degree of medical control was 3.7 ± 0.7 in men, 4.0 ± 0.4, significant higher in women (p=0.017). There were differences of awareness on medical control according to qualification kind. In conclusion, different educational programs and medical control systems depending on experience and qualification kind of 119 rescuers should be considered to improve emergency medical system.
