Performance of Real-Time Systems in Equilibrium

Abstract A real-time data acquisition and processing multiserver and multichannel system involving maintenance is considered. Jobs to different channels arrive from independent sources. In such systems, jobs are executed immediately upon arrival, conditional on system availability. That part of the job which is not served immediately is lost forever and cannot be processed later. Several definitions of performance effectiveness index are suggested. The operation of real-time system with exponential distributions is presented as a Markov chain in order to evaluate its performance effectiveness index, operation cost function and various performance characteristics in a steady state via analytical and numerical methods.
