Through-wall localization with UWB sensor network

A positioning approach based on through-wall propagation model is proposed to mitigate the non-line of sight (NLOS) error and improve the performance of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) through-wall localization. In NLOS conditions, there exist biases in the range differences determined by time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements. The error due to wall effect, which is dominant error in position estimation, can be mitigated with the proposed approach. The numerical simulations verify the effectiveness of the improvement of performance provided by the proposed approach. The simulation results also demonstrate the through-wall propagation model used in the approach is effective.
