LEDLampFlicker Caused byInterharmonics

Thecurrent IECflickermeter standard only considers light flicker ofincandescent lamps. Hence, thestandard flicker- meter haslimitations regarding assessing flicker oflamptypes other thantheincandescent lamp, particularly inthepresence ofinterharmonics. Inthis paper, theflicker responses ofvar- iouslamps(e.g., incandescent, compact fluorescent, andLED (light-emitting-diode) lamps) areinvestigated using alabora- tory interharmonic flicker station andaphoto detector Theex- perimental results demonstrate that LEDlamps exhibit flicker response similar tothat ofcompact fluorescent lamps, which aresensitive tohigh-frequency interharmonics located close to theoddorder harmonics. Ouranalysis indicates that adiode bridge rectifier, which converts ACtoDCforbothcompact flu- orescent andLED lamps, isasource offlicker duetohigh- frequency interharmonics.
