An Introduction to Traffic Flow Theory

A thorough examination of traffic flow theory along with pertinent topics in today's highway transportation system are presented in this textbook. The text covers the fundamentals of traffic flow theory and the application of these principles for evaluation of freeways, intersections, and other specific types of facilities. Additional topics include the potential impact of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) on traffic flow and advances in microscopic traffic analysis, traffic simulation, and state-of-the-art traffic flow research. Each chapter is supplemented by problem sets and real world examples. The textbook is appropriate for use in advanced undergraduate and graduate level courses in traffic flow theory.
