Plasticity of Visuo-Motor Coordination

Visuo-motor coordination in humans and higher vertebrates is known to be highly modifiable by practice. For instance, wearing glasses requires a readjustment of the closed loop gain for the guidance of eye movements. Even most severe distortions of visuo-motor coordination such as are imposed by goggles which invert the whole visual scene upside down or left to right can be compensated by experience (Stratton, 1897; Kohler, 1956).
