Buckling of a Right-angled Isosceles Triangular Plate under Edge Thrusts

The present paper deals with the buckling problem of a right-angled isosceles triangular plate under uniformly distributed edge thrusts after the methods adopted by E. Trefftz and G.I. Taylor when they obtained the buckling load of a clamped square plate. Though their methods seem to be different from each other in their appearances, they are identical in their principles as E. Trefftz suggested. In addition to Trefftz's suggestion, the author shows that, at least on the present problem, they lead to the very same determinantal equation for calculating the buckling load. In the present paper, the solutions are first given by both methods in the case of all three edges clamped ; and then, as an application, the solutions of the cases where one or two edges are clamped and the others simply supported. The calculated buckling loads are given in the tables, together with the results computed by the Ritz method.
