Investigation of tornado-type wind-powered water-pumping system

Tornado-type wind-powered water-pumping system is a newly developed system.It consists of tornado-type tower and pressure difference water-elevating device.The flow entering the tower forms a strong vortex which creates a low pressure region at the bottom of tower,and this low pressure makes it possible for the pressure difference water-elevating device to lift water.The paper focuses on carrying out a series of model tests of the new type of wind-powered water-pumping system.The results of the tests show that the principle of the system is correct.By means of allocating a diffuser and a baffle on the outlet of the tornado tower of the tornado type wind energy system,the pressure coefficient at the bottom of the tower may be dropped by several times,and hence increasing the power of the wind turbine.In order to determine the effects of the diffuser and the baffle experiments were made on the ordinary tornado tower and the tower with diffuser baffle attachment respectively.The results of the experiments indicate that for the two systems,the pressure coefficient in the bottom center of the tower of the latter is greater than that of the former by about 300%,and consequently the power of the turbine of the latter is greater than that of the former by about 70%.Finally,the feasibility of the system is discussed and suggestions are proposed for further research in this area.
