Diesel engine for a vehicle and corresponding method

Diesel engine for a vehicle, comprising: an engine body (11, 12) which is to be mounted in the vehicle and to be supplied with fuel, which contains diesel fuel as its main component, wherein a geometric compression ratio e is within a range of 12: 1 to 15: 1 set is, wherein the engine body (11, 12) includes: at least one intake valve (21) for opening and closing an intake port which is an inlet passage (30) with a cylinder (11a) in connection; at least one exhaust valve (22) for opening and closing an exhaust port which is an outlet passage (40) with the cylinder (11a) in connection; and an exhaust gas recirculation passage (51), which sets the intake passageway (30) with the outlet passage (40) in combination, and for partial recirculation of exhaust gas to the intake passage (30) is used; wherein when the engine is at least in an operating state with a comparatively low load, low rotational speed, the exhaust valve (22) is opened during an intake stroke so that the exhaust gas partly into the cylinder (11a) is introduced and throttled the intake passage (30) is; wherein said outlet valve (22) which is open during the intake stroke, is closed or is before the intake valve (21) is closed in the later stage of the intake stroke; and wherein an opening area S 0.01 x (15 - e) + 0.02 ≤ S with respect to the geometric compression ratio e of the engine.
