A Survey on PV Systems and Accessories in Asia

Publisher Summary Photovoltaic (PV) is emerging as a reliable electricity source for rural areas that have no medium-term access to grid-based electricity. However, there are a number of barriers that hinder the widespread use of PV systems in rural Asia. Many of these barriers are technical; there are a number of nontechnical barriers as well that include institutional, social, and cultural barriers. It is noted that a comprehensive approach toward solving all these issues is necessary for a successful PV dissemination. The chapter describes specific problems and difficulties experienced with PV systems and also the accessories installed in some countries. Problems reported in other PV projects implemented in other developing countries are also summarized in the chapter.
