Application of novel image processing and analysis methods to objectivization of medical diagnosing

The paper presents two examples of imaging techniques usage in medical diagnostics. The first solution is a system supporting diagnostics of the knee joints osteoarthritis. On the basis of a series of images obtained by means of the MRI examination, geometrical parameters of the selected areas subjected to diagnostics are determined in the form of a series of 2D sections and a reconstructed 3D solid. On the basis of determined parameters, the areas are classified as healthy or potentially degenerate. The second solution supports the assessment of wound healing progress and is particularly useful when standard measurement methods are difficult to use. The method combines thermovision and 3D scanning techniques. Proposed procedures can be evaluated with the application of the registered thermovision image or by mapping the temperature distribution directly on the 3D model. The paper concerns implementation of discussed methods and presents examples of system operation.
