Review and analysis of refractive index temperature dependence in amorphous SiO2

Abstract Combining previously proposed relationship describing the density-dependent mean polarizability with the Newton–Drude formula and Lorentz–Lorenz equation, two relations were obtained to study of the temperature dependence of refractive index of glasses. These relations were used to study the temperature-dependent refractive index of silica glass for different wavelengths. The validity of the Newton–Drude equation is discussed in terms of an energy balance between the electric potential energy of the incident light and the Hamilton function of the induced oscillators.
