A Linear Representation for Model Management in a DSS

Models are a key component in most decision making processes. Systems developed to effectively support the decision making process must accommodate multiple, alternative models that support alternative views of the decision making environment. An effective model management environment must facilitate the defi- nition and maintenance of models and deal with the complex issue of selection from among the collection of alternative, feasible models. A linear programming ap- proach to model selection is presented. The lp formulation works on historical information regarding model usage. A stepwise heuristic for model selection using the linear program is presented and extensions to the model are introduced.
