A BRANCH AND BOUND APPROACH FOR SET-BASED DESIGN

We take a different, set-based, approach to design similar to the the approach used at Toyota[1, 2]. In our approach, the role of the designer is to decide on a set of potential design solutions; the designer eliminates designs that are guaranteed not to be the most preferred based on the information available. The elimination continues until the set is so small that a single point decision can be used to select a satisficing solution.
